A set of Hersey High School wrestling coaches has been placed on administrative leave while an internal review is underway, district officials with Northwest Suburban High School District 214 confirmed on Saturday.
The suspensions involve coaches from both the boys and girls programs and across all levels, including varsity, junior varsity, and freshmen, according to Pat Mogge, the district’s director of community engagement and outreach.
The leave was enacted late Wednesday, Mogge said.
Mogge did not disclose the reasons behind the administrative leave or the investigation, noting that it is a personnel matter and that further details cannot be shared at this time. He added that administrative leave is a standard procedure designed to allow a thorough, fair review while ensuring continuity for students and the programs involved.
Requests for comment from Joe Rupslauk, Hersey’s boys varsity coach, on Saturday evening could not be fulfilled.
In a related note, District 214’s school board convened Thursday evening in closed session for roughly 30 minutes to discuss personnel matters before proceeding to the open portion of the meeting. They then returned to closed session for about an hour before adjourning, and it remains unclear whether the Hersey wrestling situation was addressed during that time.
