Breaking News: Craig Carton is poised for a triumphant return to WFAN's afternoon slot, sparking a major shakeup in the station's lineup! According to a report by The Athletic's Andrew Marchand, Carton is set to reclaim his place in the daily schedule at Audacy Sports 660 WFAN/101.9 WFAN-FM in New York, starting this January. This move marks a significant shift in the station's programming.
Carton's journey back to the airwaves is nothing short of remarkable. After exiting the afternoon show in June 2023 for a brief stint on FS1, he's been hosting the weekly show "Hello My Name Is Craig," focusing on gambling addiction, on Saturday mornings.
His history with WFAN is extensive. He initially teamed up with Boomer Esiason for the morning show in 2007, but resigned in September 2017 following his arrest. After serving a 12-month sentence of a 36-42 month sentence on federal charges, Carton returned to WFAN in 2020, co-hosting afternoons with Evan Roberts. Before WFAN, Carton's career included roles at various stations like WKXW Trenton, WGR Buffalo, and WIP Philadelphia.
But here's where it gets controversial... The report indicates that Evan Roberts and Tiki Barber, the current afternoon co-hosts, will transition to the midday slot, replacing Brandon Tierney and Sal Licata. Carton will be joined by a new co-host, with Chris McMonigle, the current overnight host, as the frontrunner.
And this is the part most people miss... WFAN also has a nighttime opening to fill following Keith McPherson’s departure a few weeks ago.
