REGINA — In a significant development, the Regina Police Service has officially classified the tragic death of a man as a homicide after a body was found in a vehicle during a traffic stop.

Original report: The Regina Police Service, alongside the coroner's office, is currently looking into a suspicious death that occurred early Monday morning in central Regina.
As per the reports from Regina police, just prior to 3 a.m. on January 19, officers attempted to pull over a vehicle near the intersection of Saskatchewan Drive and Albert Street. However, the vehicle managed to evade the police but was subsequently located by the RPS Aerial Support Unit within the 1400 block of Princess Street shortly after. By that time, all occupants had exited the vehicle and made their escape.
Upon searching the abandoned vehicle, officers discovered the body of an individual who had passed away. This led investigators to further inspect a residence located in the 3700 block of Dewdney Avenue. Both crime scenes were secured, and additional assistance was sought from the Major Crimes Unit and the Forensic Identification Unit of the Regina Police Service. As it stands, the circumstances surrounding the death remain suspicious, and the identity of the victim will not be disclosed at this point.
